Antes que se convierta en una amenaza para los recursos naturales, se requiere de acciones para coadyuvar a su conservaci\u00f3n y generar oportunidades a las comunidades cercanas para asegurar la correcta gesti\u00f3n y erradicaci\u00f3n de las malas pr\u00e1cticas que lo afectan.<\/p><p>La realizaci\u00f3n de este proyecto potencia la valoraci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica de los recursos naturales, la calidad ambiental y seguridad alimentaria y nutricional de la zona para integrar a las poblaciones<br \/>locales como actores clave en su protecci\u00f3n y el Refugio de donaci\u00f3n Vida Silvestre El Puct\u00e9. Alberga uno de los  m\u00e1s impresionantes destinos de Guatemala. Se trata de una serie de nacimientos y arroyos de aguas cristalinas que lo caracterizan que dejan apreciar un paisaje subacu\u00e1tico impresionante.\n\n\nCuenta con una extensi\u00f3n de 16,695 ha de los cuales el 31.5% de su superficie est\u00e1 cubierta por humedales con bosque bajo inundable que se ha mantenido relativamente en buen estado de conservaci\u00f3n.
